Update June 5, 2015

Aloha HFS Customer,

Planning efforts to modernize Hawaii's port facilities have been underway over the past several years. Hawaii's Department of Transportation, Harbors Division, is implementing the seventh of a number of planned wharfage increases on July 5, 2015.

The increase will be applied by island and equipment size, as well as by commodity in some instances. As an example, a 40-foot container moving from the U.S. Mainland to Honolulu will increase from the current $168.84 to $173.91. The Hawaii wharfage fee for a 40-foot container moving from the U.S. Mainland to any neighbor island will increase from the current $356.44 to $367.13.

Honolulu Freight Service will increase less than container load (LCL) wharfage rates by $0.01/cf to Oahu and %0.01/cf to neighbor islands. LCL reefer and dry cargo hundred wight rates will increase between $0.02/cwt to $0.04/cwt depending on Island destination effective July 5, 2015.

Please contact your Account Manager or Customer Service Representative should you require additional information.

Mahalo for choosing Honolulu Freight Service.

New Invasive Species User Fees to be implemented by the
Hawaii Department of Agriculture, Effective August 1, 2008

On July 8th, a new bill was enacted into law in Hawaii, “HB 2843 HD2 SD2 CD1 entitled A Bill for An Act Related to Invasive Species”. This new bill will require Hawaii shippers to pay the state a new fee based on the weight of their shipment. The fee is designed to support funding for programs focused on protecting the State of Hawaii from invasive species. The legislation requires transportation companies to collect this fee from the party responsible for paying the freight charges. The effective date of this new law is August 1, 2008.

Under the new law, the invasive species user fee will be assessed on the net weight of the imported freight, computed on the basis of 50 cents for every 1,000 pounds of freight brought into the state “or part thereof.”

Beginning September 1, 2008, our freight bills will reflect these charges. If you have any questions about this new fee, please contact Customer Service or your Account Manager.
